A lot of folks complain that Capitola is just out of reach as a place to retire or have a second home. They enjoy our little beach community, but are forced to either rent a vacation-home or brave highway 17 as they trek back home when the day is done.
Well, in the past month I have seen three different condo units – here in Capitola – that look like a great way to enjoy the beach at somewhat bargain prices.
Click here to see them, then search for others if you like!
The highest priced unit is, as you would expect, the nicest. Located just a stone’s throw from Gayle’s Bakery (and a brisk morning walk to the Village and Capitola-by-the-Sea!), it is really pretty good sized at 1150+ square feet, 2 bedrooms and a bath and a half.
The HOA dues are a little steep, but that is probably because there are not many units in the complex. However, it DOES have a detached garage and a kitchen nice enough to be in a single-family home.
The next two appear to be bank-owned properties – REO – but are not in the kind of condition that makes you want to burn your clothes after you go inside. Both are right around 850 square feet and have 2 bedrooms. And again, both are a short walk to the Village, Soquel Creek, and the Capitola Beach!
HOA dues are little better at $235 per month and the complex overall seems to be pretty nicely maintained.
Don’t get me wrong – one of the happiest days of my life was when I bought my single-family home in Capitola. The benefits of your own yard and no one telling you what color to paint the outside of your own house are not to be discounted.
(My home is the purple one with the yellow trim and the boat in the driveway)
But, what about a second home? What about a vacation home??! When I saw these for a fraction of the cost of a detached home, I had to ask myself – Why not?
For a little over $200 a month HOA dues, you have someone mow your lawn, water your plants, and do the exterior maintenance. I don’t think I can beat that with my detached home!
With some of the other condo units on the market (Oh yes, there are others!) you get a water view!
I don’t know, I think a vacation home should be for… vacationing! These seem to really fit the bill.
