Downtown Clayton does its best to maintain an "Old West" feel
Clayton CA Information- Clayton (originally called “Claytonville”) got its name in a very unusual way. The two early California settlers who founded the town each wanted the town named after them. Since it could not be named for both of them – they settled it by flipping a coin!
These Old West ideas are still easy to spot in Clayton California today. From its origins as a cattle and coal-mining town in the 1800’s clear through today, walking down Clayton’s streets is like stepping back to a simpler time.
