Concord CA with a population of over 125,000  is by far the largest city in Contra Costa County.  It was once known as Todos Santos (“All Saints” in Spanish), but became Concord almost immediately.  However, the downtown plaza still bears the city’s original name and plays heavily on its pre-California Spanish history. It was incorporated as Concord CA in 1905.

Concord is rapidly becoming a city of tall, modern buildings. Here a BART train shuttles commuters to and from work in Concord's Downtown

Prior to World War II, Concord was a small local industrial center surrounded by large landscapes of orchards and cattle ranches.  After WWII, however, the city grew rapidly and slowly distanced itself from its agricultural heritage in favor of a more suburban landscape.  Industry grew with the population and continued to be a large and unrivaled local employer until the 1980’s brought more office-style corporate facilities.

Today, Concord is home to the World Champion Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps, made up of talented musicians from around the world and are the most decorated drum and bugle corps in the history of Drum Corps International.

Concord is served by the Mount Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD).  Click here to read more about the MDUSD.  The local high schools are Ygnacio Valley High School and Clayton Valley High School.

Concord is also home to De La Salle High School and Carondelet High School, two private Catholic high schools known for their high academic standards as well as atheletic achievement.  De La Salle’s Spartan football team compiled a record 151 game wining streak between 1992 and 2004.

California State University, East Bay also has a campus in Concord.
