Depot Hill was named for its Southern Pacific Railroad Depot which served the area as such for nearly 100 years. It was the destination of well-heeled vacationers and enterprising developers and their dreams to the original Camp Capitola. In 1990, the original structure was purchased, turned 90 degrees, and completely refurbished and opened as The Inn at Depot Hill, an upscale bed-and-breakfast inn.
Great effort was made to maintain its historical character, and the décor of each of the 12 rooms harkens back to a time when travel by rail was an exclusive and luxurious experience.
Depot Hill is also the location of Monarch Cove Inn, an estate of unique cottages and flower gardens overlooking the ocean and Monterey Bay. It is a short walk to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary on the cliffs above New Brighton State Beach.
