Diablo is a one-square mile community centered around the Diablo Country Club.  It is located just east of Danville at the foot of Mt. Diablo.

As of the 2000 census, its population was under 1000 residents and Forbes magazine ranks it as the fourth most expensive ZIP code in the United States as far as real estate is concerned.

The median income for Diablo households is nearly $200,000 per year with per capita income roughly half of that figure.

This area was part of the original “Mt Diablo Ranch”, later known simply as “Diablo Ranch” until its owner, Robert Burgess founded the community of Diablo.

The enterprising Burgess encouraged the likes of Charles Crocker, Leland Stanford, William Randolph Hearst, and other notable California figures to join him at his lovely home, and eventually Diablo became the first “country club” in Contra Costa County.

It wasn’t until WWII that Diablo had year round residents and in 1948 the club was extensively remodeled to provide a luxurious venue for parties, dances, and of course, golf.

Today, Diablo Country Club encompasses 115 acres and nearly 400 homes in a decidedly upscale executive setting.
