Pleasant Hill was a sleepy little area between neighboring Walnut Creek and Concord in the first half of the twentieth century, distinguished for little more than farms and cattle ranches.
However, since its incorporation in 1961, the city has managed to find its identity as a thriving shopping area and a safe and friendly community with lush parks, a vibrant senior center, and high-ranking public schools. As of 2000, Pleasant Hill CA population was just over 32,000.
Pleasant Hill is also the home to the central branch of the Contra Costa County Library system.
