Brentwood is a city of 51,000 residents located in eastern Contra Costa County.   It was named after a city in Essex County, England by an early settler and was incorporated in as a city in 1948.

Although Brentwood has been an active farming community for over a hundred years, recent development has turned it from an agricultural center into a thriving bedroom community with a large commercial presence. Big Box stores such as Kohl’s, Trader Joe’s, Home Depot, and Lowes, and the new Slatten Ranch shopping center in nearby Antioch provides the Brentwood area with plenty of access to shopping. 

But it is the rapid residential development that has made the greatest change in the character of Brentwood in recent years.

Today, Brentwood balances its footprint of fruit orchards and corn fields with large housing developments and public golf courses.

Brentwood is has 7 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 3 high schools and three school districts – Brentwood Union School District, Knightsen School District and the Liberty Union High School District.

In addition, Los Medanos College has a campus on Highway 4 and Sand Creek Road.
