Oakleyis located in eastern Contra Costa County, near the cities of Antioch and Brentwood California.
Although Oakley’s first post office was established in 1898, it took over a hundred years for it to become incorporated as a city. Oakley is known as a bedroom community, much like its neighbor Antioch, and has seen rapid development in recent years.
In relation to the surrounding cities, Oakley enjoys a relatively high median income and a large family makeup. Its population is about 32,000 and growing.
Public education is served by Oakley Union Elementary School District and Liberty Union High School District.
It has one high school, Freedom High School.
