Soquel – Where the Santa Cruz Mountains Meet The Village Town
See Soquel Homes For Sale … or scroll down to see the latest Soquel listings!
No one seems to know exactly where the name Soquel originates. One story has it originating from a bar-room insult, another has it coming from a local indigenous people known as the Soquel Indians.
What is known is that a pre-California land grant, Rancho Soquel, was given to Martina Castro and the modern references to the name comes from that.
Soquel is a small town – only about 5000 people as of the 2000 census – located due north of Capitola between Aptos and Live Oak (Santa Cruz).
The area of Soquel combines remote area of the Santa Cruz Mountains with a cute little village area just north of Highway 1. Although it has no Monterey Bay frontage of its own, the village area is only a short walk, bike ride, or drive to Capitola and its beaches.
